A beautifully sunny 'Remembrance Day' morning was the perfect setting for our match today, against our neighbours from Keighley, Long Lee.
The players of both teams stood and observed a minutes silence before the game kicked off.
We started sluggishly and we were panicking on the ball far too often in the first half.
We dominated possession and we were pretty much camped in Long Lee's half of the field.
With great defending from Todd D'Arcy, Ronan Rhodes and Oliver Toothill, our Goalkeeper, Jack Gill, didn't have a save to make at all in the 1st half.
But we lacked teamwork and any real quality going forward and made little opportunities in front of goal.
Half Time 0 - 0
In the second half we pushed forward leaving the ever reliable Todd D'Arcy on his own at the back.
Our passing and positional play was much better and it wouldn't be long before a goal was coming.
James Whiteoak was causing them problems with his dribbling skills.
The goal when it came was an absolute beauty, possibly 'Goal of the Season.'
Ben Gardner beat his man out on the wing really well, but it was the way he composed himself to look up and see where his strikers were, before delivering a peach of a cross that earned him 'Man of the Match'
Ben's cross was controlled nicely by striker Fayzaan Rashid who then hit a superb half volley to score his second of the season. 0 - 1
As Silsden pressed to get a second, it was somehow, Long Lee, who equalised against the run of play.
It wasn't long though before Silsden restored their lead with a well worked goal finished by Connor Pennington.
Well done boys but there's still work to do, so see you at training.
