Fergie time .....?

A beautiful but chilly Sunday morning saw the Dragons visit Crossley Juniors for their much-anticipated league clash. The large crowd were in excited mood -partly by the presence of a chuck wagon. A well observed silence by both teams for remembrance Sunday was taken before the match . Unfortunately, Silsden were without two key players, Archie P and Sam through family commitments and illness respectively (get well soon, Sam!). However, Harry stepped into the breech and did a fantastic job on the left. The game started brightly and both sides did their best to get their passing games together but it was Crossley who broke the deadlock halfway through the first half with a breakaway goal netting low in the right hand corner just passing Alex’s fingertips. The first half continued to be a tight affair with very few efforts on goal but plenty of hard tackling. The second half saw Silsden begin to stamp some authority on the game and they could have equalised on a few occasions. Owen had a ferocious dipping long range shot shave the bar and this gave the Dragons even more confidence. Their probing attacking was not to be denied and Evan found some room to calmly smash the ball into the net to the delighted shouts of the Silsden fans. One all! Right from the restart Silsden pushed for another goal with some great play in midfield from Owen, Billy and Harry. Alfie was in the thick of it and Evan was scaring the Crossley defence every time he got the ball. When Crossley did get the ball any threat was quickly snuffed out by the well-organised defence of Euan, Archie N and Jack. Alex, as always was solid in goal and made some impressive kicks out to restart our attacks. Eventually the pressure told and after a goalmouth scramble Euan and Evan combined for Evan to force the ball home . Two-one! With only a few minutes left, however, Crossley ran through to equalise and the match finished 2-2 with the Dragons feeling that they well deserved the win on the balance of play. However, they can all be proud of keeping going after going behind. Well done to them, the coaches and supportive parents. www.networxrecruitment.com
