Beaten by the better team but plenty of positives

We played 20 minutes each way this week as the opposition had brought 9 players so it was a new experience for us as we'd been used to 10 minute quarters previously.

This was not to detract from a solid first 10 minutes by our players as we competed well with a markedly taller Calverley team (I don't know what they feed them over there!).

The game changed in the 11th minute when Calverley broke forward and scored with a powerful shot into the far corner past Thomas.

We struggled to manage for the remaining 9 minutes as Calverley pushed us back and took advantage of some poor decisions to score two more goals.

The second of these goals came from a penalty as Noah for a second thought he was a keeper and a penalty was conceeded!

We were lucky in this case that they forgot their shooting boots as they spurned further chances before the half time whistle was blown.

After a half time team talk Thomas came out to play and Noah went back into goal.

We played well for a spell then as Thomas took advantage of hesitancy in the Calverley team to score his first goal, and then score a second just after they had scored a 4th.

The game went back and forth then for a while with further chances for Thomas, Toby and also Charlie.

It ended then as we conceeded two comical goals with a few minutes remaining to make it 6-2. The first as Callum wouldn't get out of the way of Noah so that when the shot came in he couldn't see it - not sure who Callum was marking!

And then a great intercept by one of our team lead to Noah not being able to pick up the ball and the ball being passed along our goal line for an easy finish for Calverley.

Overall then, we showed a lot of promise with performance of the season games by Noah (although he needs to only use his hands in goal :-)) and certainly Abi with big mentions for the rest of the kids.

Baildon next week for hopefully a more positive result!
