Opening day defeat but signs of promise and improvement.

1st Quarter
Harvey (GK), William, Will L, Harry T, Lennon, Thomas.
Slow start from Silsden. Calverley raced into a deserved 2 – 0 lead. Calverley were well organised and quicker to the ball. Silsden never really got going in this quarter.
2 – 0

2nd Quarter
Harvey (GK), Evan, Will L, Lennon, Harry T, Edward.
Better showing in this half. Edward's pace up front give us an “out” ball and the boys worked harder at closing the Calverley boys down. This paid off at a corner where pressure from Lennon and Will L at the back post resulted in the ball crossing the line 2-1 (some confusion over if it was a Calverley player or Will L so benefit of the doubt I’ve given it to Will). Unfortunately for Silsden Calverley managed to catch our boys on the break to make it 3-1. But overall better from the Dragons.
During this quarter we switched Harry T to defense and this helped a lot. His ability to break up the Calverley attacks really key in making it a more even game.
3 – 1

3rd Quarter
Harvey (GK), Will L, William, Evan, Thomas, Edward.
End to end stuff in the third quarter but Silsden never took advantage of their attacks. Unluckily Calverley did scoring twice making it 5 – 1. We seemed to lose our way again not passing and not getting back to help out Will L and William in defense.
5 – 1

4th Quarter
William (GK), Will L, Evan (Harry T), Lennon, Thomas, Edward.
Strong finish from the Dragons better passing and tackling saw them get a goal back through Edward on the break from a Calverley attack. However our defensive frailties were still evident with Calverley scoring a sixth before Edward got two more to make the score line a respectable 6 – 4. A pleasing cameo from William in goal and a strong quarter did mean that we could come away feeling pleased with our efforts.
6 – 4

Summary.
Not bad for our first game. Lots to work on but equally lots to be happy with. Harry T was awarded Man of the Match for his defensive work and I think dropping him back into defense will be a big bonus going forwards. Also the performances of Harvey and William in goal were very encouraging.
If we consider that we were heavily beaten by the same team just a couple months before in the Saltaire tournament there are definite signs of improvement.
